Welcome to FightAlliance: Traditional and Mixed Martial Artists of Tacoma!

We are a community of serious, open minded, and friendly martial arts students and teachers in Tacoma, Washington. We train in Mixed Martial Arts (MMA): KickBoxing, Boxing, Submission Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), and Indonesian Kung Fu (Pukulan / Pentjak Silat). The goal of our gym is to provide the most well rounded approach to martial arts training in general and to support each student's personal goals be it to get in shape, acquire self defense skills, learn weapons defenses, learn a traditional discipline, be part of our competition team, or become a full contact MMA fighter. We have classes for adults and children. We want to be a positive influence in the Tacoma community and will accept low income youth students on a sliding scale. All types and levels of abilities are welcome. Space rental may also be available to other martial artists / fitness instructors so contact us for more info. Here is a list of the programs we offer...(see bottom for schedule and price)

Tacoma Indonesian Kung Fu: (Pukulan, Silat)

Pukulan (some styles spell it Poekoelan) is a general term for Indonesian martial arts. Tacoma Indonesian Kung Fu is part of the Gotong Royong Association dedicated to furthering the Pukulan Tjimindie style brought to the U.S by Mas Goeroe Agoeng Willy Wetzel. The basis of our style is Indonesian animal forms (monkey, tiger, snake, and crane) with some Chinese Kung Fu and Cun Tao influence. This is the ideal art for those seeking a traditional discipline that is beautiful but self defense oriented. This dynamic and unique style is taught in a traditional manner with a belt system and incorporates sparring, jointlocks, takedowns, groundfighting, forms, weapons, breathing exercises, and meditation. Unlike many traditional styles that have a specific focus this fluid and dynamic style can easily incorporate any effective techniques be it striking, trapping, sweeping, or submissions and from all positions standing or on the ground. We retain the respect for past teachers and the motherland of our art but are willing to learn and adapt. Self expression and individual creativity are encouraged in each student as they are supported in expressing the art their own way. We train with compassion and respect and the spirit of "Gotong Royong" (sharing). This is also a great art for children (for more information see "Tacoma Dragons" below for information on our youth program). For in depth information about Pukulan visit Tacoma Indonesian Kung Fu.

Tacoma Dragons Youth Martial Arts Program(5-12)

In our youth program we train children seriously but in a fun supportive environment. We don't focus on just striking/kicking or just grappling as some classes for kids do. Our goal with our kids is the same as with our adults, to provide them with well rounded martial arts training. Students learn a traditional martial art, Pukulan-Indonesian Kung Fu, a dynamic animal style that is really fun for children. Students are also taught Wrestling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so they learn a full spectrum of self defense techniques. We believe it is also important to teach children about safety issues and these topics are addressed in class regularly. Justine Kreher, the head instructor for Tacoma Dragons has taught many women's and children's self defense workshops. These classes focus on raising awareness (not fear) in students. Tacoma Dragons also trains with a team mentality and students who are interested can compete in tournaments. This teaches them important life lessons such as accountability, sportsmanship, supportiveness towards others, confidence in new situations, and that what you put into something is what comes back to you. So we can be here for all members of the community we will take youth student on a sliding scale if they are serious about learning. For more info visit Tacoma Dragons.
